Aims

1.To develop a disease-specific instrument for the measurement of health related quality of life (HRQOL) in dementia. 2. To determine the optimal measurement strategy and conceptual model by review and qualitative work. 3. To define the content and scope of the concept of HRQOL in dementia, and identify features of good and poor HRQOL in different life domains. 4. To evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of the new instrument. 5. To conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the psychometric properties of the new instrument including validity, reliability, and responsiveness. 6. To develop and evaluate the instrument in terms of its ability to be used in health economic analyses. 7. To evaluate the feasibility, content and appropriateness of the new instrument against existing methodologies. 8. To produce a final instrument for use in descriptive and intervention studies and in routine health and social care.
